New Online Poker Site for Canadian Players Coming Soon…

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Wow, ok, so it’s been a month since my last post. I ended up having to move and have been sans-internet for some time now. But have no fear, I’m back and better than ever, though I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t played much poker… I’m sure my game is a bit rusty.

This of couse means I’m going to be brushing up on my game by hitting up a few tables online before I head back to the Edgewater Casino (which, unfortunately is no longer within walking distance =(). I’m thinking the best plan is to start with some limit cash games to brush off the rust, then move back into the tournaments I love to play.

But speaking of online poker, I’ve actually just gotten word from one of my good friends over at Bodog…. it looks like they’re going to be offering their online casino and poker services to Canadians (finally). This means that Vancouverites will soon have a site to play on which is taylored to Canadians. This ALSO means I can actually participate in the Bodog “Bodonkey” tournament for bloggers this September. Anyways, I’ll add their site under a new set of links of “Online Poker Sites for Canadians”.

Until next time, good luck at the tables

Play Poker, Win a Porsche….?

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

(ok, i know i said i wasn’t going to play poker, but i can still write about it damnit…)

It’s true,

I’ve been playing online on Pokerstars for while now and have racked up bunch of FPP, or Frequent Player Points… While my immediate plan with them is to of course buy myself a coveted Pokerstars Monkey, I have recently, however, ended up spending a good chunk of them trying to enter the May $1M Turbo Takedown where the grand prize is a 2009 Porsche Cayman S!

Entry is 2,000 FPP, but if you’re like me and don’t have that (yet) then you can satellite in for with 60 FPP, 15 FPP or (what I like to call the “Meat Grinder”) an 8 FPP w/ unlimited rebuys for the first hour shovefest. (As you can imagine, the latter of the two is somewhat more of an aggressive crap shoot than the first.) Seriously, though, the best advice I can give is to play really tight and super aggressive… that means when you get a premium hand, play it w/ the expectation that all the chips will likely be going in.

I’ve been trying to get myself satellited in via the 8 FPP sludgefest and have run deep in the 1,000 player tourneys only to have run into some bad cards. I think this tournament is the main reason I’ve decided to break for the weekend and leave town. The Takedown is scheduled for Sunday May 31st at 5:30pm PDT and there are exactly 20294 players registered so, if you do buy or satellite in, be prepared for seriously long session of poker and always remember to utilise the 1 hour break… (and not pee bottles :P )

Anyways, best of luck to whatever poker goodness you decide to indulge in.

Time for a Downswing… apparently

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Going to take a break until after next weekend… I’ve been running prety badly lately and each session I play leaves me bitter and tilted enough to affect my session the next day.

This was the hand which decided things for me while playing in a 10 player tournament online on Pokerstars.

I sit on the SB with Ace-Jack of diamond…. blinds are 75/150 and I have roughly 2100 in chips. Guy on the button with about 2500 has been raising to blind steal on every round like clockwork; this round is no exception… it folds around to him and he raises to 750. I push my 2100 in, bb insta-folds and he insta-calls with Ace-Ten offsuite.

Flop comes down 9-6-J putting me ahead.

The next card is a King

The last card is a Queen giving him the straight and completing his (roughly) 9% chance of winning.

I’ve been trying to turn things around and usually get my money in pretty good. It though that the poker gods have other plans for me and those small % chances to lose are coming up and smacking me in the face.

Anyways, it feels good to vent, thanks for listening internets! I’ll be back next week with more posts on poker in Vancouver.

Cheers,
~Teh Addict
